Intersect cements its place as the leading training provider in eResearch tools and technologies in Australia

This last quarter saw an exciting new educational collaboration between Intersect and NCI take flight, the achievement of a significant milestone for the Intersect eResearch Services team, and the culmination of an extensive data migration project for the Technology team, the largest in Intersect’s history.

Read below how the AI and ML in Materials Design Showcase was successfully delivered to over 200 researchers. Presented by internationally renowned research pioneers, this 4 hour workshop allowed us to dig beneath the surface on this cutting edge topic.

Following the success of the Showcase, we are pleased to announce that registrations are open for the semester length course on HPC and Data in Materials Design and Discovery. This 12 week course presented by an array of internationally renowned professors and scientists will encompass 16 topical lectures and 8 hands-on tutorials.

In March this year, Intersect proudly reached 20,000 researchers trained, making Intersect one of Australia’s largest training providers in eResearch tools and technologies.

The Technology team at Intersect has been hard at work finalising the migration of our Space and Time infrastructure to the QCIF facility, alongside our Nectar Cloud Refresh activities. This migration saw us move an incredible 3.1 PB of data and e-waste over 6 tonnes of end of life equipment.

Also, this quarter, we have profiled the work of two of our Melbourne based eRA’s, Jerry Lai and his work with researchers on the Tech School Initiative for Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET) and Sam Ryan, and his work with preeminent researcher Professor Brian Smith, Dean and Head of the School of Molecular Sciences at La Trobe University, and Director of the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS) on using HPC in Modelling Molecular Interactions. These Case Studies showcase the depth and breadth of the eResearch Analyst contributions to the research community.
