Instance snapshots stuck in pending state

When making a snapshot of an instance to back up the boot disk the instance passes through a series of states. Under certain circumstances the instance will sometimes be stuck in “pending upload” or “image_pending_upload” state.

This appears to occur during Nova Compute upgrades when Core Services and local node
releases are different. Upon completion of the upgrade it is necessary to reset the state of the instance. Snapshots will then work normally.

A state reset requires Admin privileges, so please log a Service Request ticket to request a state reset. Providing the ID or IP Address of the instance will enable us to locate the instance and perform the task quickly.
