Throughout 2020, Intersect has been engaged to provide DevOps Professional Services to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE), across the following skill areas:
- Development and establishment of monitoring and profiling tools to visualise compute, storage, resource and network utilisation at both system and researcher level;
- Design and establishment of Containers (predominantly Singularity) to manage workloads; an initial essential step in working towards automation of workflows and pipelines;
- Investigation and resolution of IT service issues relating to Linux and Windows operating system and application software environment; and,
- Monitoring, management and configuration of file systems, disk caching policies and tape volume group policies
The DevOps services and tools provided by Intersect have allowed DPIE users to better plan and manage their ongoing compute and storage usage, help with forecasting upcoming usage needs, enhance network performance and facilitate open and transparent communications across teams.
In conjunction with the technical skills provided by Intersect for these DevOps services, Intersect has also provided valuable expertise in providing transparent change and project management to track changes and requests, and facilitate effective communication between Intersect and the customer.
This project engaged experts from many disciplinary areas within Intersect including development, storage and infrastructure, and project management to work efficiently and effectively together to successfully deliver DevOps services and tools to a very satisfied customer.
