Intersect exists “…to assist universities and research bodies in relation to the application of advanced information and communications technology to the practice of research (eResearch) and to promote collaboration for the practice of research, across all disciplines of study…”

~ Constitution of Intersect Australia Limited, 2.a

Intersect is a not-for-profit organisation established to enhance research productivity, across all disciplines, through the application of advanced information technology. With our members, we share a common purpose in the acceleration of high quality, ethical research to generate the breakthroughs that advance healthcare, engineering, science, technology, economics, arts, and, indeed, all areas of human endeavour in Australian society.

Intersect membership is, at its heart, a recognition of the common need for digital research technology and eResearch across all research-intensive organisations, and the synergistic value obtained for all members through collectively pursuing enhanced digital research capability. It goes well beyond the payment of an annual fee for a package of services. Membership involves a commitment to creating better research capability for the communal benefit of all members.

Membership Benefits

Each member can draw on over 50 years of shared, on-campus experience in digital research training and support; backed by research-specific technical specialists in IT systems, operations, technology, and engineering. This suite of services is optimally delivered through an on-campus professional: a core component of Intersect membership. In addition, members have comprehensive access to the full range of digital training services provided through the Intersect digital research training program.

Each Intersect member has a Digital Research Analyst (DRA) placed at the university who is the key contact for researchers seeking the advice, support, and assistance provided by Intersect in the use of digital research tools and technologies. The on-campus Digital Research Analyst is supported by a national team of Digital Research Analysts with diverse research backgrounds, as well as technical specialists in system administration, data science, and software engineering.

In this way, Intersect’s Membership offering serves as a bridge between the goals and priorities of the DVCR Portfolio, the CIO and university IT, and the researcher community to provide greater awareness, communication, and cooperation in the use of digital research technology services within the research community.

The depth and breadth of skills, expertise, and disciplinary experience within the Intersect Services team can be seen by reviewing the individual pages of each Digital Research Analyst.
