Ceasing Membership

When does membership cease?

Membership is ongoing on a rolling, annual basis. Membership does not cease, and membership fees remain due and payable, until the membership is cancelled.

How do we cancel our membership?

Members wishing to cancel their membership are strongly encouraged to first speak informally to the Head of Membership Services. Intersect exists solely for the benefit of its members and seeks to deliver ongoing, high-quality, and relevant products and services. This informal notice provides the opportunity for Intersect to address any shortcoming in service provision or explore alternate options with the Member, before membership is formally cancelled.

Notwithstanding the above, membership can be cancelled by providing written notice to the Board of Intersect through the Company Secretary.

How much notice of cancellation do we have to provide?

Membership operates on a rolling, annual, calendar year basis with a minimum notice period for cancellation of three months. For clarity, this means: where written notice is given before September 30 in any calendar year, the membership will cease on December 31 in the same calendar year; where written notice is given after September 30 in any calendar year, the membership will cease on December 31 in the following calendar year.

For example:

Date of written notice of cancellation Date on which membership services cease
January 1, 2023 December 31, 2023
June 30, 2023 December 31, 2023
September 30, 2023 December 31, 2023
October 1, 2023 December 31, 2024
December 31, 2023 December 31, 2024

Why don’t fees and services cease immediately upon cancellation?

Membership officially commences on the date the Board approves the Membership Application and Agreement. Notwithstanding this, service delivery (and fees) do not commence until, for example, the Digital Research Analyst has been recruited.

Similarly, membership officially ceases on the date the Board receives the written notification of cancellation. However, service delivery (and fees) continue until the date identified above, allowing sufficient time to transition or smoothly cease services for researchers.
