Intersect News #89 December 2017

Hello from Intersect at that time of year in Australia where everybody frantically rushes around trying to get everything done ‘before Christmas’. Difficult as it is for international collaborators to understand, actually this tradition is somewhat self-perpetuating; we sign up more research projects and membership arrangements in December than in any other month!

As our news bulletin jostles with a torrent of others in your inbox, on this occasion we want to highlight just a handful of things as we close out the year.

2017 has again been tough for research funding and for not-for-profit research agencies like ourselves. Fear not… Intersect is ending the year with the strongest membership lineup in our history, new Data focus on health and medical, a successful new HDR training program, new OwnTime Local and Space product additions, and renewed partnership with NCI.

I’m particularly proud of our research focused management team this year, having completed a reboot that began in 2014. Our newest recruit is National Services Manager Dr Jonathan Arthur, published and renown Bioinformatician. You may have already met Jonathan on his introductory visits to all member DVCsR and CIOs, and we’ll hear more from him in the New Year.

Out of the gate in 2018 we are very excited about moving our NSW HQ into GravityCoworking at 50 Carrington Street Sydney, where we’ll be offering eduroam networking to visiting scientists and guests.

In the meantime, aligning with our members, Intersect will be closed from Friday December 22, reopening Wednesday January 3rd. Help.intersect.org.au and help@intersect.org.au will still be available during this time, with human responses limited to critical escalations.

That’s enough from us for now, and indeed for 2017. Thank you to all our researchers, members and customers for ongoing support and enthusiasm for your research productivity company, Intersect Australia.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us to all of you.
