Foreword by Marc…

Welcome to Intersect News for 2016. We’ve been busy since Christmas and have a bunch of articles to share in a new look format.
The new year has kicked off with optimism and opportunity for Intersect, its members and researchers.

Read on to find out about our success in the NSW RAAP grants, the results of our hpc.Time supercomputing merit allocations and more. Both NSW and national supercomputer facilities were oversubscribed by an overall factor of 2.4 demonstrating once again the increasing demand for high performance computing. Tangible guidelines for security and privacy are pumping out of med.data.edu.au for dealing with health and medical data in the national context. This month’s member spotlight shines on Western Sydney University and our interactions via senior eResearch Analyst Peter Bugeia. We also congratulate NSW Chief Scientist and Engineer Emeritus Professor Mary O’Kane on her appointment as Companion of the Order of Australia, and celebrate the Alveo Virtual Lab securing NCRIS 2016 funding.

Our innovative team is hard at work on exciting new projects that I can’t wait to share with you next time, so watch this space…
