Collaborative Research Data Store Status
Members will be aware that Intersect is developing a position paper on NSW research data storage infrastructure, based on feedback received from the research community over the last few months. The paper (version 2 can be found here) proposes a three-pronged approach towards achieving a robust infrastructure covering technical requirements, technical design and governance. To implement the model, Intersect will be calling for participants to assist in each of these processes shortly. We aim to have a final ready by the end of February. Feedback continues to be useful and welcome.
Australian National Data Services Projects
ANDS recently called for Expressions of Interest as part of their Seeding the Commons and Data Capture programs. Intersect’s eResearch Analysts have been busy helping institutions with these processes. This has presented opportunities for Intersect to identify common elements and highlight potential collaborative efforts. Initial scoping has begun on Data Capture initiatives on a case-by case basis; and ANDS has scheduled a workshop for mid February to progress Seeding the Commons. Our eResearch Analysts will continue to work directly with institutions as to the best way to proceed.
HPC Resource Allocation Report
Intersect conducted an HPC Resource Allocation (RA) round on 28th January. Resources were allocated in keeping with the following principles, i.e. to: encourage uptake by new users, students and new institutions; fully assess and scale applications from the Go8 institutions (which typically dominate the requested allocations), against the available resources; accept applications between calls to increase flexibility and avoid holding up new projects or exploratory activities; consider allocation requests against both NSW and NCI systems at the same time. Some users may be encouraged to move their applications to NCI.
Results of the RA round will be communicated to applicants later this week.
