The Australian eResearch Organisations (AeRO) that have been delivering the ARCS Data Fabric research storage service since 2011 wish to advise users that the systems providing this service have reached the end of their life and this service will close on 19th April 2013.

There are now a number of research and commercial products offering services similar to or better than the Data Fabric. AeRO members are ready to assist Data Fabric users to migrate their data to suitable alternatives.

This notice is to advise all researchers to remove valuable data to alternative storage locations before 19th April.

Important Dates:

19th March – The Data Fabric will be locked for data creation, update and further ingest will be suspended on 19th March 2013.

19th April  – The Data Fabric will be locked for data access on 19th April 2013.

AeRO suggests that users start any necessary data transfer processes as early as possible. Leaving transfer to the last minute will risk delay and difficulties arising from substantial traffic loads and access congestion to storage systems.

Copies of all Data Fabric files will be retained by relevant AeRO members for some time after closure and data that users were unable to transfer in time should be recoverable.

For assistance in transferring data to suitable replacement services please contact enquiries@intersect.org.au
