Intersect CEO Marc Bailey is one of the judges of the 2016 IDG CIO50 list, out now. Congratulations to HigherEd CIOs William Confalonieri from Deakin and Kenneth Udas from USQ for making the top 15.

The 2016 list ranks the transformative and innovative technology management leaders of organisations at the forefront of their Australian market sectors and is hotly contested.

Marc commented "Decisions between an incredibly talented and accomplished candidtature were extremely challenging; the field spanned multinationals to SMEs, conglomorates to charities, and direct report numbers from thousands to handfuls. It was a privilege to be able to contribute a research and technology dimension to the CIO50 process, and great to see two universities so high up the list".

William Confalonieri (#10) is recognised for Deakin Universitiy's personalised digital student experiences programme as it shifts IT from an operational to innovation focus. Highlights include partnership with IBM to create of an AI-based student engagement advisor, a location-based services and orientation app, and augmented reality classes.

Kenneth Udas (#15) is recognised for the University of Southern Queensland's unique approach to localised virtual learning, in particular its Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPP) "Making the Connection" that brings education to incarceration. Without the luxury of internet access, USQ has solved not just conventional online, but offline delivery to meet unique compartmentalisation and regulatory constraints for over 1000 prisoner enrolments so far.

The full judging panel of CEOs, former CIOs and analysts included Marie Johnson (Centre for Digital Business), Nick Bake (RedBalloon), Alex Scandurra, (Stone and Chalk), Jenny Beresford (Gartner), Bridget Gray (Harvey Nash), Fi Slaven (William Buck), Lesley Gillespie (Bakers Delight) and Byron Connolly (IDG).
