Research Computing

Intersect offers researchers a range of research computing platforms designed to suit various needs:

  • High Performance Computing (HPC) - addresses higher-end research computing needs utilising parallel processing for running advanced application programs efficiently, reliably and quickly. HPC services are provided through Intersect and national HPC facilities.

  • Cloud Computing - is the delivery of on-demand computing resources. With cloud computing, you can quickly take advantage of powerful computing and large-scale storage without the need for specialised IT knowledge. Intersect offers two cloud computing services that are focused on research uses:

    • NeCTAR Research Cloud provides small to medium-sized Virtual Machines (VMs) that are more suited to less compute-intensive research applications.

    • Intersect OwnTime provides larger VMs for more compute-intensive applications.

  • Application Hosting Services - involves Intersect working with researchers to deliver cloud-based delivery of research applications.
